Be someone a boy can look up to.
Not a hero. Not a copy of anyone. A man who turns up, keeps his word, listens, and puts things right when he gets them wrong. Boys and young men notice. They copy what we do far more than what we say.
This guide is for fathers, grandfathers, uncles, older brothers, coaches, teachers and any adult man a younger person looks to. Lead by example, not by force. It is for adults aged eighteen and over.
What this is not
It is not a parenting service, a child chat service, a mentoring scheme or a safeguarding service. It does not assess children and it never asks for their names or details. If a child may be at risk, that needs the right people now, not a website.

Shouting gets compliance for a minute. Example lasts years. The way you lose a game, speak about women, handle a mistake or put your phone down when someone is talking is the lesson, whether you meant to teach it or not.
Small things, a huge difference
There is a lot in life men are expected to just know. Perhaps we missed that class at school. Asking a basic question in front of a boy, and being fine with not knowing, may be one of the most useful things you ever show him.
When you get it wrong
You will. Everyone does. An apology without a "but", and a change in what you do next, teaches more than getting it right every time.
Why James
James Roberts is fifty, lives in Tenerife, and spent nearly twenty years headhunting in travel and hospitality. He has no professional standing with children and does not present himself as a parenting expert. What he has is a long view of how men learn, mostly from the example of the men around them.
